Image of Dr. KoernerEmail: Tess.Koerner@va.gov
Telephone: 503-220-8262 x56428

Current appointments:

Research Investigator and Audiologist, NCRAR, VA Portland Healthcare System
Assistant Professor, Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, Oregon Health & Science University

Research interests:

Dr. Koerner uses behavioral and electrophysiological methods to identify and understand neural mechanisms that contribute to auditory processing and speech understanding difficulties in patients who are aging or who have a history of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The long-term goal of Dr. Koerner’s research program is to improve the clinical assessment and identification of auditory deficits as well as to develop more effective rehabilitation methods for individuals with speech understanding difficulties. Dr. Koerner is also a licensed audiologist.

Research projects (Current and recently completed):

Mechanisms of Impaired Speech Perception in Veterans with Non-Blast TBI, VA RR&D Career Development Award-1, 2020-2022
The Neural Coding and Perception of Speech in Noise in Individuals with TBI, VA OAA Advanced Fellowship in Interprofessional Polytrauma/Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation-Research, 2017-2020
