Associate Investigator Award, Michelle Molis, Ph.D.
Objective: The Associate Investigator
Program will provide Dr. Molis with ongoing research mentoring in the
area of speech perception by hearing-impaired individuals. This training
will help her to develop as an independent research investigator.
Plan: The training program planned for Dr. Molis will encompass
formal and informal learning, supervised research, and independent
research. Dr. Molis will work closely with Dr. Leek in the development
and implementation of research activities that address the temporal
processing of complex sounds, like speech, in individuals with hearing
loss.
Methods: The methods and techniques that will be used in
investigations of speech perception by hearing impaired individuals
include speech synthesis, statistical analyses, and computer modeling of
the response of the impaired auditory system to speech and other complex
sounds.
Expected Outcomes: The Associate Investigator Award is the first
step towards an independent research career. Dr. Molis will develop a
program of investigation involving signal processing strategies and
perceptual training programs that have potential clinical applications
for rehabilitation of hearing-impaired listeners.
