Au.D. Student Externships

The NCRAR is able to offer 4th year externships to Au.D. students from around the country. Each year we will have one or two stipends available to support at least one, perhaps two students for 12 months each.

The NCRAR 4th year externship will provide the student with a combination of clinical and research experiences. In addition to performing clinical test procedures in the context of a research study, students will gain knowledge of the procedures involved in conducting research such as the importance of human subject protection, subject recruitment, adherence to a study protocol, preparation of research data for analyses, and preparation of conference presentations, posters and papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

If this type of experience is something that appeals to you contact: Gaby Saunders at gabrielle.saunders @va.gov. You should send along your resume, a list of individuals we can contact for a reference and a cover letter explaining what you would like to gain from your externship.

In some instances, depending on availability of funds and staff mentors, students may be able to spend the second 6-months of their externship at the Portland VA Audiology Clinic.

Note: The research focus of this program may not meet the required criteria for some Au.D. programs. Please check with your Dept. Chair in advance.
