Scholarships Guidelines

The NCRAR is pleased to announce that it will be awarding up to eight scholarships for practicing audiologists to attend the NCRAR national conference titled ‘Hearing Therapies for the future’ that will be taking place on September 27th and 28th 2007 in Portland, Oregon.
Scholarships will provide up to $800 in travel funds, plus conference registration and three nights at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Portland (based on a room shared with one other scholarship winner of the same gender).

Eligibility

  1. Any practicing clinician who will be attending the meeting can apply for a scholarship. Priority will be giApril 22, 2008candidates will be expected to present a poster during the poster session on Thursday September 27th and to convert the poster into text for publication in a special issue of Seminars in Hearing (guidelines will be provided).

Application Requirements

All applicants must submit a 1500 word case study of a patient or description of an approach to clinical practice that has relevance to one of the conference session topics.

  • Noise induced hearing loss & tinnitus
  • Approaches to differential diagnosis or aural rehabilitation of individuals with hearing loss and traumatic brain injury or polytrauma
  • Approaches to hearing conservation

The description should include an introduction providing rationale behind the choice of case or topic area. For clinical cases, please include a short case history with applicable audiometric test data, and a discussion of why the individual is of interest, with particular reference to the topic area under discussion. For clinical practice approaches, please include a discussion of why the practice is important, rationale for the specific approach used, counseling techniques, literature provided, and recommendations given. No personal health information (PHI) that can result in identification of any individual should be included with case study posters or publications.

Selection Criteria

  1. Scholarships will only be awarded to practicing audiologists. VA employees will be given priority.
  2. Submissions will be judged on clinical interest, clarity of the submission, relevance to the topic of interest and appropriateness of clinical interpretation.
  3. The five-member conference program committee will be responsible for selecting the winners. Their decisions are final.

Complete applications must be received by June 1st 2007. Winners will be notified on or before August 1st 2007. At that time instructions about travel reimbursement will be provided.
