Jonathan Kil, M.D.
Jonathan Kil is the co-founder of Sound Pharmaceuticals, a private biotechnology company focused on developing the first therapeutics or drugs for hearing loss and brain injury. Sound has entered into clinical testing, the first drug candidate for noise induced hearing loss in the US. Sound is also developing drugs for chemotherapy induced hearing loss, traumatic brain injury, and age-related hearing loss. Dr. Kil co-discovered, the mechanism that inhibition of a cell-cycle inhibitor called p27 allows supporting cells within the hearing organ to re-enter the cell cycle, proliferate and differentiate into new hair cells. Sound is now developing this regeneration strategy into a therapy to stimulate auditory hair cell regeneration in the deafened cochlea for the severe to profoundly hearing impaired.
