     Dr. Walter McDonald serves as the Executive Vice President and the chief Executive Officer for the American college of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine. This is the largest medical specialty organization in the United States serving the specialty of Internal Medicine and having over 115,000 thousand members.

     Dr. McDonald received his V.A. from Williams College in 1960, his M.D. from the University of Michigan in 1964 and additional training in Internal Medicine at Oregon Health Center University. He completed his formal training at the University of Michigan where he was trained and certified in Endocrinology.

     Dr. McDonald's professional experience includes a number of years functioning primarily in research in the areas of Endocrinology and Nephrology. He served as the Chief of Medicine at the Portland VA Medical Center for twelve years and then became Associate Dean for Education at Oregon Health Sciences University. During these years, Dr. McDonald also participated in the creation of the Oregon Health Plan.

     Dr. McDonald is a member of a number of different associations and societies. These include: The Endocrine Society and the Association of the Clinical Endocrinologists; American Medical Association where he has served as a Delegate; and the American Heart Association where he served as President and of the Oregon affiliate.
