Dr. Hefeneider is a Merit Review funded investigator and in 1987 was nominated by the VA for the Alan T. Waterman award for the outstanding young scientist in the nation. His research is directed at the identification and molecular characterization of a cell-surface receptor, which functions as an autoantigen in patients with autoimmune disease. Dr. Hefeneider, in conjunction with Dr. Trune, will be responsible for the overall administration and coordination of "Protein Screening for Differential Diagnosis of Ear Disorders."
