    Professor Emeritus, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA and Research Audiologist, VAMC, West Los Angeles (retired Mar 30, 2001). Dr Dirks will serve as a consultant to the research staff of the Center. He has nearly 40 years of research experience and has been the awardee of numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, VA RR&D, National Science Foundation and other private organizations. In 1986 he received a Jacob Javitts neuroscience award from the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communicative Disorders for excellence in science. He will serve as consultant in the design of research projects in the areas of diagnostic audiology, speech recognition, and hearing aid evaluation.
