The National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR) located at the Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is the only center of its kind in the nation dedicated to advancing the discovery of new knowledge about hearing impairments and to developing new approaches to hearing rehabilitation. The Center is committed to carrying out excellent, rigorous studies on hearing impairment and tinnitus, and to integrating evidence-based research outcomes into clinical practice. This work is carried out within the VA health care system and throughout the nation to optimize hearing health care for Veterans and others who suffer from hearing disabilities. The multi-disciplinary Center conducts auditory research by integrating rehabilitation, education, professional training, and the development of innovative technologies. The Center also works to educate and inform Veterans, their families, and the public about hearing loss prevention, and about how individuals can prevent further hearing loss and effectively cope with tinnitus.
